Explaining the Commission's vision on shipping and the shipbuilding industry

Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director-General of the DG for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, explained the Commission's vision on shipping and shipbuilding industry at the 9th National Maritime Conference in Bremerhaven, Germany.

The National Maritime Conference of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Industry takes place in Germany every two years, and was held this year in Bremerhaven from 19–20 October 2015. The conference intended to:

  • demonstrate the strategic importance of the maritime industry for the future of Germany’s industrial base.
  • provide important input for the policy on maritime industry in Germany and in Europe.
  • present specific recommendations for action for the next few years.

Replacing Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMES, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, as key-note speaker at the conference, Deputy Director-General Antti Peltomäki talked about the maritime economy in Germany and Europe, the challenges ahead and the way forward in these changing times, with particular focus on Commissioner Bieńkowska portfolio, the shipping industry, shipbuilding and related industries.

Commissioner Karmenu Vella, responsible for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, also addressed the conference.

The conference was as usual attended by a high number of important stakeholders from the field, and has become an central platform for dialogue between different parts of the industry.
