High level conference on global health security

Environment, consumers and health, Events/Conf/Fairs, Presidency of the Council of the EU, European Commission

The French Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Women’s Rights and the European Commission organise this event, co-sponsored by the World Health Organization and the Netherlands Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The main objective of this conference is to encourage the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR), adopted by the World Health Assembly in 2005.

Mr Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, and Dr Margaret Chan, WHO Director General, have already confirmed their attendance, and the presence of the French President François Hollande is expected at the closing session.

The conference aims at providing recommendations for consideration by the 69th World Health Assembly in May 2016. It will also promote initiatives and innovative tools addressing the challenges of the effective implementation of the IHR.
