2017 Rolling Plan for ICT Standardisation released

Today, the European Commission released the 2017 Rolling Plan on ICT Standardisation. The plan identifies ICT standardisation activities that support EU policies.

The Rolling Plan takes a unique look at standardisation activities in the field of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) by linking them to EU legislation and policies.

That includes policies such as healthcare, cloud computing, intelligent transport systems, security, accessibility, the Internet of Things, eGovernment and smart grids, among many.

The link with legislation and policy is crucial because ICT standards convey important technological requirements on privacy, security and accessibility. Having the right ICT standards supports growth because it allows European businesses to expand their offer beyond national borders and enables industry to optimise its production system by interconnecting equipment and exploiting diverse data sources. It also improves the lives of Europeans by supporting consumers to make a choice between different digital offers and helping public services to offer digital and cross-border services to citizens.

The Rolling Plan was developed with the help of the Multi-Stakeholder Platform on ICT Standardisation (MSP). The MSP represents ICT standardisation stakeholders and advises the Commission. This inclusive and participatory approach in developing the Rolling Plan ensures wide support from the European and international standardisation organisations, associations, EU countries, and key global industrial and technology companies.

Each year the Rolling Plan is extended, and this year we are happy to announce the addition of financial technologies, the Common maritime Information Sharing Environment (CISE), and construction (building information modelling).
