The High Level Expert Group on Energy Intensive Industries was created by the Commission decision on 26 October 2015. The first meeting of the group will be held on 18 December 2015 in Brussels.
Bringing together 10 industrial sectors, 17 national authorities, trade unions, NGOs, the European Invesment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, this group aims to discuss EU-level measures to tackle the challenges faced by energy-intensive industries.
The EU and the Member States are working to ensure the necessary conditions for the competitiveness of EU's industry. The technical expertise of stakeholders will therefore be needed, in order to develop policies in the field of energy intensive industries.
The meeting will be chaired by Lowri Evans, Director General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. It will address the following thematic priorities:
• Funding opportunities for energy intensive industries under the European Fund for Strategic Investment • The Circular Economy package • Research and Innovation under Horizon 2020 and the 5th pillar of the Energy Union • Trade
As a follow-up of the Presidency conclusion of the extraordinary Council on steel on 9 November 2015, a High Level Conference will take place in the beginning of 2016, with the participation of energy intensive industries.
