Environmental effect study of the Euro 5 environmental step for L-category vehicles

25 June 2015

(From ec.europa.eu)

The Commission has issued a new call for tender for a study on the environmental step Euro 5 for L-category vehicles.

Before an L-category vehicle is approved for registration and placing on the market, a number of environmental tests need to be conducted.  The test results should be reported to the approval authority in order to validate that the environmental performance of a L-category vehicle type complies with the minimum requirements set out in Regulation (EU) No 168/2013 and its delegated and implementing acts.

Regulation (EU) No 168/2013 stipulates that the Commission should conduct an environmental effect study in regards to the Euro 5 environmental step for L-category vehicles.

This Regulation sets environmental requirements for two stages, the second (Euro 5) being mandatory for new types of L-category vehicles, as of 1.1.2020.

Based on future available data an environmental effect study will provide additional information through modelling, technical feasibility and cost-effectiveness analysis based on the latest available data at that time.

In addition, the study will also assess the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of in-service conformity testing requirements; off-cycle emission requirements and a particulate number emission limit for certain (sub-) categories.

The Pre-study and Phase 1 of the study have been conducted by DG JRC. The contractor shall carry out phases 2 (verification phase) and 3 (validation phase) of the study, which is supervised by DG JRC.

For detailed information on the study requirements, please see the technical specifications.

All tendering documents relating to DG GROW are published through a European Commission-wide unique platform called "eTendering".
