European (Online) Job Days

(EOJDs) have become one of EURES' most powerful tools for connecting jobseekers and employers across the continent. To bring these events to fruition, much complex work goes on behind-the-scenes. Here, we talk to individuals who help make EOJDs a reality. Given the complexities of EOJDs, EURES collaborates with a specialised communications agency to ensure the events run smoothly. Greg Gonciarz and Nebojsa Milenkovic oversee the EOJD management on behalf of the agency, and Greg notes the varied and challenging context of each event: "Some EOJDs require that up to ten different services be provided, from technical support, to helpdesk support, to translation services." In their work, Greg and Nebojsa's team liaises with the EURES coordination office in Brussels. Together, they develop an EOJD support package for the local EURES team staging the event. "Presently, EURES teams organising EOJDs can choose from four possible support packages, ensuring the service provided best matches the needs of attendees." Often, EOJD events take months of behind-the-scenes planning that is often not visible to attendees. But for Elke Smets, IT Officer at EURES, the hard work pays off as "jobseekers get the chance to be in contact with employers whom they may otherwise never have met". When quizzed on the

, Greg points to the statistics as the best endorsement. "Last season, 16 unique EOJDs were organised. In the first season [spring 2013] only two events ran. The numbers speak for themselves". This sentiment is echoed by Elke, who notes that there is "
