Conference: Giving soils a voice

This two-day conference, organised by the Joint research centre (JRC) and the European Network for Soil Awareness, brings together soil scientists and specialists in in the areas of communication and education in order to understand how best to raise awareness among an increasingly urbanised public and policy makers of the life-critical ecosystems services that are provided by soil.
The first day will entail keynote presentations by notable advocates of sustainable soil use, those responsible for wide-ranging communication programmes (e.g. Food and Agriculture Organisation - FAO, European Environment Agency - EEA), successful examples of educational activities (e.g. Green Schools programme, DG Education and Culture, UNESCO) and action plans within the Global and European Soil Partnership initiative. The second day will focus on examples of best practices within the soil-user community in relation to soil awareness, education, outreach and extension.
