Today, EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Elżbieta Bieńkowska, hosted together with Vice-President Jyrki Katainen, and Commissioners Carlos Moedas and Günther Oettinger, a High-level conference on 'The Digital transformation of European Industry and Enterprises'.

Digital technologies are driving a new industrial revolution. They have the potential to transform EU industries and have a significant social, economic and environmental impact. But to obtain the full benefits of state-of-the-art technology and market developments, concrete measures are needed for industries and enterprises.

This is why this event brought together leading business people, academics, politicians and representatives of international organisations, trade unions and civil society from across Europe to discuss the specific EU-level measures needed to support the digital transformation of European industry and enterprises and to exploit the great business potential that the global digital economy represents.

In a joint declaration conference participants urged Europe's policy makers and industry leaders to take immediate action to restore economic growth and create jobs for a modern, highly competitive and sustainable Europe, for example by facilitating public-private investment for mass data storage and usage, by becoming innovation and digital transformation ambassadors, and by European businesses involving their users and counterparts in the innovation process as a standard practice.
