15 April 2016

(From ec.europa.eu)

Background

The Defence Procurement Directive 2009/81/EC on defence and sensitive security procurement, adopted in 2009, introduced rules on the award of defence contracts through transparent and competitive tendering, which are more flexible and tailor-made to the specificities of the defence sector, which tends to be particularly complex and sensitive.

The European Commission has to report to the European Parliament and to the Council on the implementation of the Directive and on its effect on the European defence market and industrial base. The outcome of this consultation in aggregated form will contribute to the report.
