The European Commission and the Japanese Ministry for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, are organising the third meeting of the EU-Japan Industrial Dialogue on Railways today in Brussels. The Dialogue is set up in the framework of the ongoing EU-Japan free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations.

Objective of the dialogue

The Dialogue aims to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and information exchange between the participants to facilitate bilateral trade in the railway sector. It should include procurement and purchase by private operators, both from a business and governmental perspective.

Representatives from public authorities and the main EU and Japanese manufacturers and operators in the railways sector will:

  • discuss the measures undertaken by the Japanese procuring entities and private companies to ensure greater transparency in their procurement;
  • exchange information on best practice on market access, technical regulations and safety standards in the EU and Japan.

The meeting will further deepen existing business contacts between the industries.
